Sandy MetivierI am married to Dave Metivier, who is a graduate of Champlain Valley Union High School. We have been married for 36 years. We have four boys, Dana and David (twins) from his previous marriage and Shawn and Chad. We also have 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren! We have a summer place in Wells, Maine that we enjoy traveling to as much as my work allows. I love reading all types of books, gardening and taking long walks.

Education and Professional Experiences
I graduated in 1975 from Winooski High School and started working as the Principal’s secretary 2 weeks before I graduated. I worked in the Principal’s office for eight years at which time I transferred to the Superintendent’s office in 1983. I have been the administrative assistant to the Superintendent since. I absolutely love working for the district. I find it amazing how education has changed over the years that I have been here. There is always something new and exciting happening. I am never bored!

What has been your greatest learning experience? (in or out of school)
My greatest learning experience has been to be tolerant of all different cultures. People are so different from all parts of the world and it is intriguing to learn new things.

Who do you admire and why?
I admire my father. He passed away at the age of 92 in 2010. He lost his wife (my mother) soon after he retired after working six days a week to support his family. He always managed to keep a smile on his face and enjoy life to the fullest. He was always there for me – in good and bad times. But most importantly, he taught me the true meaning of a loving family.

What do you love about your current WSD position and the WSD community?
The Winooski community has changed drastically over the last 40 years. From a predominate French-Canadian heritage to a very diverse population of families from all parts of the world. The diversity is what makes Winooski so special.
