K-5 Illustrative Mathematics
In the fall of 2022, we decided to pilot Illustrative Mathematics (IM) in grades k-5. In the spring of 2022, we adopted IM and began implementation in August of 2022. Illustrative Mathematics receives high ratings from Ed Reports for Focus, Rigor, and Usability.
IM K-5 is a problem based curriculum which means students learn math as the result of solving problems. Mathematical ideas are the outcomes of problem solving rather than something that is taught before problem solving.

6-8 Open Up Resources Mathematics
The middle school decided to adopt Open Resouces as its core math program in 2019. Open Up Resources Math is authored by creators of Illustrative Mathematics. This program receives high reviews from Ed. Reports for Focus, Rigor, and Usability.

High School Math
In the spring of 2023, the Winooski High School math department reviewed several different math programs. They decided on the highly rated Reveal Math program from McGraw Hill. They will begin implementing this program in the 23-24 school year. This program is designed around three learning principles:
-
Growth Mindset – students learn that they can do challenging math
-
Insightful Instruction – lessons are intentionally designed so that students engage daily in a warm-up, explore and learn, and reflect and additional practice.
-
Active Classroom – Each lesson engages students in talking about the math they are doing and challenging interactive problems using Desmos and other digital tools.
