Kristen Van FossenI love to read. I especially enjoy murder mysteries and science fiction. I also love to garden.

Education and Professional Experiences
I went to a Quaker boarding school in Philadelphia during high school. This school afforded me many opportunities for service to others. I traveled to Cuba my junior year where I lived with a family. At the time I only spoke a little bit of Spanish, but it was enough to make me realize what an incredible gift it is to be able to communicate with people from another place in this world. I went on to study Spanish in college. I lived, and taught English in Mexico for three years, and when I came back, I went to the MATESOL program at St. Michael’s College to become an ELL teacher in the US.

What has been your greatest learning experience? (in or out of school)
Everything in my life has been a learning experience, especially the things that did not work out.

Who do you admire and why?
I admire my students and their families. I admire their strength, resilience and grace as they adapt to life in a new country, and a new culture.

What do you love about your current WSD position and the WSD community?
I love my students most of all. They are my favorite part of my job. Each one of them brings something special to my life and changes the way I see the world just a little bit.
