Winooski Middle School is thrilled to announce an exciting student art exhibition happening this month at Scout & Co. coffee and ice cream shop in downtown Winooski! The exhibit will feature 28 student self-portraits ranging from across grades 6-8 and will center around the theme of identity. These portraits not only celebrate Winooski’s diverse population but also share each student’s individuality and unique point of view.
“Drawing my self-portrait really helped me to express my identity,” shared student artist Logan Erwin. “Seeing as I’m part of the LGBTQ community, I added rainbow colors into the background to represent that part of who I am. I’m a little nervous about sharing my art,” Logan adds, “but I like stepping out of my comfort zone, so I’m excited to see my portrait on display downtown.”
This event has also created opportunities to partner with arts-related area businesses, in addition to Scout & Co. The student work in the show has been professionally matted by Art Works Frame Shop and installed by Cornelius & Company Fine Art Installation. We are so grateful to have generous community partners like these, that share our enthusiasm for the arts and for our students!
The art exhibit–Identity Through Art–will remain on display at Scout & Co. through the entire month of November, with a special reception on the evening of Thursday, November 21st during the monthly Winooski Art Walk. All are encouraged to stop by Scout & Co. to see the show at any time throughout the month and, of course, to come celebrate with us at the reception on the 21st!
