Dear Families,
What a drastic change in the weather! This week has been very cold, with our first recess with snow! Students at JFK go outside for recess if the temperature is at or above 10 degrees with the wind chill (the feels like temperature). On Wednesday, it felt like 5 degrees, so students did not go outside for recess. On Thursday, it felt like 19 degrees, so students had outdoor recess. It is important that students come to school dressed for the weather every day.
Monday is our fall Parent Teacher conferences. All families should have received a time for a conference with your student(s) teacher(s). If you did not, please call the JFK office first thing Monday morning to find out what time your conference is. We are very excited to share all of the wonderful learning your student(s) has done so far this year!
Our 2nd year of the Winter Transportation Pilot will begin the Monday after vacation; Monday, November 26th. It will run from November 26th through March 29th. The busses are for students that live 3/4 of a mile or more away from school. There will be 2 buses, doing 2 runs each, at 3 different pick-up locations. The bus stops will be at:
- O’Brien Community Center (OCC): 2 pickups-7:15 & 7:45
- The corner of Elm Street & Forest: 2 pickups-7:15 & 7:45
- The corner of Elm & Mallets Bay: 2 pickups-7:15 & 7:45
As a school, we partner with VSA Vermont for artists to work in a few classrooms. VSA Vermont is excited to present sensory-friendly drumming workshops in partnership with the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. These workshops are free and open to families with children of any age who would enjoy a sensory friendly experience. The workshop is Sunday, November 18th: 1 – 2 PM. Learn more and register on the Flynn Center’s website:. https://www.flynncenter.org/education/take-a-class/classes/details.html?perf_no=16262&is_teen_adult=1
There is no school for students next week. I hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation!
