Dear Families,

Next Tuesday Mike Cannon, Team Leader for Colchester Technical Rescue, and WSD School Resource Officer (SRO) Jason Ziter will be coming to talk to each grade level about water safety. Officer Jason has already been talking to classes about water safety throughout the school year. Given that two WSD students have drowned in the past two years, we believe it is important to bring in an additional expert to talk to the students. It is vital that our students and families understand that the Winooski River is a fast moving body of water with a strong current. It is not safe for students to play on the shore or swim in the river. Families are welcome to join their student(s) class for the presentation if you would like to hear what we are talking about. Here is the schedule for next Tuesday, June 11th:

  • 8:30 – 8:55: 2nd Grade and Newcomer Class
  • 9:00 – 9:25: 3rd grade and Multiage room
  • 9:30 – 9:55 – 1st Grade
  • 10:00 – 10:25: 5th Grade
  • 10:30 – 10:55: Kindergarten
  • 11:00 – 11:25: 4th Grade

On June 10th Elizabeth Bluemle, local author and owner of the Flying Pig Bookstore in Shelburne, will be coming to present to our K-3 students. This is our final CLiF event of the year. Our Year of The Book has been an amazing experience for our K-3 students and school community. Students received books throughout the year to take home, authors came to present and there was a family literacy night. If you would like to join us for our final event, here is the schedule:

Elizabeth Bluemle Schedule

  • June 10, 2018, PAC
  • 8:30:Grades 2, 3, & Newcomer
  • 9:30: Grades K & 1

June 17th is our 5th grade BBQ. This is a time for our 5th grade students and their families to come together to celebrate their time at JFK. The event starts at 5pm in the PAC, and moves to the cafeteria for dinner. The event ends at 7pm. There is a PTO sponsored dance after the event for the students. Kate Grodin, WMS principal, and Amanda Spencer, WMS School Counselor, will be in the lobby prior to the BBQ with information for families about 6th grade.

June 18th is our All School Celebration. Students are outside for a large portion of the day. If it rains, we will move things inside. Please be sure to send your student to school that day prepared to be outside for the day; hat, sunscreen, water bottle, appropriate shoes, etc.

Have a great weekend!
