Dear Families,

It has been a wonderful week at JFK. The weather has turned cold and snowy, with temperatures dropping below 10 degrees some days. If the temperature is below 10 degrees with the wind chill, what is often called the feels like temperature, students will be inside for recess. If the feels like temperature is above 10 degrees, students go outside for recess. Please send your student with cold weather clothing! If your student needs an item of cold weather clothing, please let us know.

Our 5th grades have started going to Starbase. Starbase has been working with schools since 1994 to raise students interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Each time the students go to Starbase, they get to participate in hands-on activities, science demonstrations, and time to work directly with trained professionals. As part of the program, students get to build and launch their own rockets!

We started our next CLiF event this past week. Natalie Kinsey-Warner came on Thursday and Friday this week to work with our students in grades K-3. Natalie runs a series of 6 days called Storykeepers. During these six days, students explore history, and their own family’s history. The students and adults all had incredibly positive feedback about their experiences so far.

This morning we kicked off our annual Big Change Roundup contest. This year there are 17 adults from school participating: Amanda Babcock (Behavior Coach), Kyle Blindow (PE Teacher), Kari Bohlen (3rd grade teacher), Courtney Bryan (Kindergarten teacher), Tiffany Demore (3rd grade teacher), Grace Holcomb (K-2 guidance counselor), Jacie Knapp (5th grade teacher), Marie Maillet (Behavior Interventionist),

Angela Moulton (2nd grade teacher), Sarah Murphy (3-5 guidance counselor), Krista Parisi (Administrative Assistant otherwise known as the Late Cart Lady), Jessica Perrotte (4th grade teacher), Sara Raabe (Principal), Manny Robertson (Behavior Interventionist), Andy Schlatter (2nd Grade Teacher), Jenny Wright (5th Grade Teacher), and Jason Ziter (School Resource Officer). Each participant has a bucket in the JFK office for students and adults to bring their money.

Have a great weekend!

Sara Raabe

JFK Principal
